민수기 24:1–25 (NKRV)
1발람이 자기가 이스라엘을 축복하는 것을 여호와께서 선히 여기심을 보고 전과 같이 점술을 쓰지 아니하고 그의 낯을 광야로 향하여
2눈을 들어 이스라엘이 그 지파대로 천막 친 것을 보는데 그 때에 하나님의 영이 그 위에 임하신지라
3그가 예언을 전하여 말하되 브올의 아들 발람이 말하며 눈을 감았던 자가 말하며
4하나님의 말씀을 듣는 자, 전능자의 환상을 보는 자, 엎드려서 눈을 뜬 자가 말하기를
5야곱이여 네 장막들이, 이스라엘이여 네 거처들이 어찌 그리 아름다운고
6그 벌어짐이 골짜기 같고 강 가의 동산 같으며 여호와께서 심으신 침향목들 같고 물 가의 백향목들 같도다
7그 물통에서는 물이 넘치겠고 그 씨는 많은 물 가에 있으리로다 그의 왕이 아각보다 높으니 그의 나라가 흥왕하리로다
8하나님이 그를 애굽에서 인도하여 내셨으니 그 힘이 들소와 같도다 그의 적국을 삼키고 그들의 뼈를 꺾으며 화살로 쏘아 꿰뚫으리로다
9꿇어 앉고 누움이 수사자와 같고 암사자와도 같으니 일으킬 자 누구이랴 너를 축복하는 자마다 복을 받을 것이요 너를 저주하는 자마다 저주를 받을지로다
10발락이 발람에게 노하여 손뼉을 치며 말하되 내가 그대를 부른 것은 내 원수를 저주하라는 것이어늘 그대가 이같이 세 번 그들을 축복하였도다
11그러므로 그대는 이제 그대의 곳으로 달아나라 내가 그대를 높여 심히 존귀하게 하기로 뜻하였더니 여호와께서 그대를 막아 존귀하지 못하게 하셨도다
12발람이 발락에게 이르되 당신이 내게 보낸 사신들에게 내가 말하여 이르지 아니하였나이까
13가령 발락이 그 집에 가득한 은금을 내게 줄지라도 나는 여호와의 말씀을 어기고 선악간에 내 마음대로 행하지 못하고 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 말하리라 하지 아니하였나이까
14이제 나는 내 백성에게로 돌아가거니와 들으소서 내가 이 백성이 후일에 당신의 백성에게 어떻게 할지를 당신에게 말하리이다 하고
15예언하여 이르기를 브올의 아들 발람이 말하며 눈을 감았던 자가 말하며
16하나님의 말씀을 듣는 자가 말하며 지극히 높으신 자의 지식을 아는 자, 전능자의 환상을 보는 자, 엎드려서 눈을 뜬 자가 말하기를
17내가 그를 보아도 이 때의 일이 아니며 내가 그를 바라보아도 가까운 일이 아니로다 한 별이 야곱에게서 나오며 한 규가 이스라엘에게서 일어나서 모압을 이쪽에서 저쪽까지 쳐서 무찌르고 또 셋의 자식들을 다 멸하리로다
18그의 원수 에돔은 그들의 유산이 되며 그의 원수 세일도 그들의 유산이 되고 그와 동시에 이스라엘은 용감히 행동하리로다
19주권자가 야곱에게서 나서 남은 자들을 그 성읍에서 멸절하리로다 하고
20또 아말렉을 바라보며 예언하여 이르기를 아말렉은 민족들의 으뜸이나 그의 종말은 멸망에 이르리로다 하고
21또 겐 족속을 바라보며 예언하여 이르기를 네 거처가 견고하고 네 보금자리는 바위에 있도다
22그러나 가인이 쇠약하리니 나중에는 앗수르의 포로가 되리로다 하고
23또 예언하여 이르기를 슬프다 하나님이 이 일을 행하시리니 그 때에 살 자가 누구이랴
24깃딤 해변에서 배들이 와서 앗수르를 학대하며 에벨을 괴롭힐 것이나 그도 멸망하리로다 하고
25발람이 일어나 자기 곳으로 돌아가고 발락도 자기 길로 갔더라

1When Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did not go, as at other times, to look for omens, but set his face toward the wilderness.
2And Balaam lifted up his eyes and saw Israel camping tribe by tribe. And the Spirit of God came upon him,
3and he took up his discourse and said, “The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,
4the oracle of him who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down with his eyes uncovered:
5How lovely are your tents, O Jacob, your encampments, O Israel!
6Like palm groves that stretch afar, like gardens beside a river, like aloes that the Lord has planted, like cedar trees beside the waters.
7Water shall flow from his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters; his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.
8God brings him out of Egypt and is for him like the horns of the wild ox; he shall eat up the nations, his adversaries, and shall break their bones in pieces and pierce them through with his arrows.
9He crouched, he lay down like a lion and like a lioness; who will rouse him up? Blessed are those who bless you, and cursed are those who curse you.”
10And Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam, and he struck his hands together. And Balak said to Balaam, “I called you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them these three times.
11Therefore now flee to your own place. I said, ‘I will certainly honor you,’ but the Lord has held you back from honor.”
12And Balaam said to Balak, “Did I not tell your messengers whom you sent to me,
13‘If Balak should give me his house full of silver and gold, I would not be able to go beyond the word of the Lord, to do either good or bad of my own will. What the Lord speaks, that will I speak’?
14And now, behold, I am going to my people. Come, I will let you know what this people will do to your people in the latter days.”
15And he took up his discourse and said, “The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye is opened,
16the oracle of him who hears the words of God, and knows the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down with his eyes uncovered:
17I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near: a star shall come out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel; it shall crush the forehead of Moab and break down all the sons of Sheth.
18Edom shall be dispossessed; Seir also, his enemies, shall be dispossessed. Israel is doing valiantly.
19And one from Jacob shall exercise dominion and destroy the survivors of cities!”
20Then he looked on Amalek and took up his discourse and said, “Amalek was the first among the nations, but its end is utter destruction.”
21And he looked on the Kenite, and took up his discourse and said, “Enduring is your dwelling place, and your nest is set in the rock.
22Nevertheless, Kain shall be burned when Asshur takes you away captive.”
23And he took up his discourse and said, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?
24But ships shall come from Kittim and shall afflict Asshur and Eber; and he too shall come to utter destruction.”
25Then Balaam rose and went back to his place. And Balak also went his way.
