열왕기하 7:1-20 (NKRV)
1엘리사가 이르되 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다 여호와께서 이르시되 내일 이맘때에 사마리아 성문에서 고운 밀가루 한 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하고 보리 두 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하리라 하셨느니라
2그 때에 왕이 그의 손에 의지하는 자 곧 한 장관이 하나님의 사람에게 대답하여 이르되 여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내신들 어찌 이런 일이 있으리요 하더라 엘리사가 이르되 네가 네 눈으로 보리라 그러나 그것을 먹지는 못하리라 하니라
3성문 어귀에 나병환자 네 사람이 있더니 그 친구에게 서로 말하되 우리가 어찌하여 여기 앉아서 죽기를 기다리랴
4만일 우리가 성읍으로 가자고 말한다면 성읍에는 굶주림이 있으니 우리가 거기서 죽을 것이요 만일 우리가 여기서 머무르면 역시 우리가 죽을 것이라 그런즉 우리가 가서 아람 군대에게 항복하자 그들이 우리를 살려 두면 살 것이요 우리를 죽이면 죽을 것이라 하고
5아람 진으로 가려 하여 해 질 무렵에 일어나 아람 진영 끝에 이르러서 본즉 그 곳에 한 사람도 없으니
6이는 주께서 아람 군대로 병거 소리와 말 소리와 큰 군대의 소리를 듣게 하셨으므로 아람 사람이 서로 말하기를 이스라엘 왕이 우리를 치려 하여 헷 사람의 왕들과 애굽 왕들에게 값을 주고 그들을 우리에게 오게 하였다 하고
7해질 무렵에 일어나서 도망하되 그 장막과 말과 나귀를 버리고 진영을 그대로 두고 목숨을 위하여 도망하였음이라
8그 나병환자들이 진영 끝에 이르자 한 장막에 들어가서 먹고 마시고 거기서 은과 금과 의복을 가지고 가서 감추고 다시 와서 다른 장막에 들어가 거기서도 가지고 가서 감추니라
9나병환자들이 그 친구에게 서로 말하되 우리가 이렇게 해서는 아니되겠도다 오늘은 아름다운 소식이 있는 날이거늘 우리가 침묵하고 있도다 만일 밝은 아침까지 기다리면 벌이 우리에게 미칠지니 이제 떠나 왕궁에 가서 알리자 하고
10가서 성읍 문지기를 불러 그들에게 말하여 이르되 우리가 아람 진에 이르러서 보니 거기에 한 사람도 없고 사람의 소리도 없고 오직 말과 나귀만 매여 있고 장막들이 그대로 있더이다 하는지라
11그가 문지기들을 부르매 그들이 왕궁에 있는 자에게 말하니
12왕이 밤에 일어나 그의 신복들에게 이르되 아람 사람이 우리에게 행한 것을 내가 너희에게 알게 하노니 그들이 우리가 주린 것을 알고 있으므로 그 진영을 떠나서 들에 매복하고 스스로 이르기를 그들이 성읍에서 나오거든 우리가 사로잡고 성읍에 들어가겠다 한 것이니라 하니
13그의 신하 중 한 사람이 대답하여 이르되 청하건대 아직 성중에 남아 있는 말 다섯 마리를 취하고 사람을 보내 정탐하게 하소서 그것들이 성중에 남아 있는 이스라엘 온 무리 곧 멸망한 이스라엘 온 무리와 같으니이다 하고
14그들이 병거 둘과 그 말들을 취한지라 왕이 아람 군대 뒤로 보내며 가서 정탐하라 하였더니
15그들이 그들의 뒤를 따라 요단에 이른즉 아람 사람이 급히 도망하느라고 버린 의복과 병기가 길에 가득하였더라 사자가 돌아와서 왕에게 알리니
16백성들이 나가서 아람 사람의 진영을 노략한지라 이에 고운 밀가루 한 스아에 한 세겔이 되고 보리 두 스아가 한 세겔이 되니 여호와의 말씀과 같이 되었고
17왕이 그의 손에 의지하였던 그의 장관을 세워 성문을 지키게 하였더니 백성이 성문에서 그를 밟으매 하나님의 사람의 말대로 죽었으니 곧 왕이 내려왔을 때에 그가 말한 대로라
18하나님의 사람이 왕에게 말한 바와 같으니 이르기를 내일 이맘 때에 사마리아 성문에서 보리 두 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하고 고운 밀가루 한 스아를 한 세겔로 매매하리라 한즉
19그 때에 이 장관이 하나님의 사람에게 대답하여 이르되 여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내신들 어찌 이 일이 있으랴 하매 대답하기를 네가 네 눈으로 보리라 그러나 그것을 먹지는 못하리라 하였더니
20그의 장관에게 그대로 이루어졌으니 곧 백성이 성문에서 그를 밟으매 죽었더라

1But Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord: thus says the Lord, Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.”
2Then the captain on whose hand the king leaned said to the man of God, “If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” But he said, “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”
3Now there were four men who were lepers at the entrance to the gate. And they said to one another, “Why are we sitting here until we die?
4If we say, ‘Let us enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. So now come, let us go over to the camp of the Syrians. If they spare our lives we shall live, and if they kill us we shall but die.”
5So they arose at twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians. But when they came to the edge of the camp of the Syrians, behold, there was no one there.
6For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians hear the sound of chariots and of horses, the sound of a great army, so that they said to one another, “Behold, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Egypt to come against us.”
7So they fled away in the twilight and abandoned their tents, their horses, and their donkeys, leaving the camp as it was, and fled for their lives.
8And when these lepers came to the edge of the camp, they went into a tent and ate and drank, and they carried off silver and gold and clothing and went and hid them. Then they came back and entered another tent and carried off things from it and went and hid them.
9Then they said to one another, “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news. If we are silent and wait until the morning light, punishment will overtake us. Now therefore come; let us go and tell the king’s household.”
10So they came and called to the gatekeepers of the city and told them, “We came to the camp of the Syrians, and behold, there was no one to be seen or heard there, nothing but the horses tied and the donkeys tied and the tents as they were.”
11Then the gatekeepers called out, and it was told within the king’s household.
12And the king rose in the night and said to his servants, “I will tell you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry. Therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the open country, thinking, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall take them alive and get into the city.’ ”
13And one of his servants said, “Let some men take five of the remaining horses, seeing that those who are left here will fare like the whole multitude of Israel who have already perished. Let us send and see.”
14So they took two horsemen, and the king sent them after the army of the Syrians, saying, “Go and see.”
15So they went after them as far as the Jordan, and behold, all the way was littered with garments and equipment that the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king.
16Then the people went out and plundered the camp of the Syrians. So a seah of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.
17Now the king had appointed the captain on whose hand he leaned to have charge of the gate. And the people trampled him in the gate, so that he died, as the man of God had said when the king came down to him.
18For when the man of God had said to the king, “Two seahs of barley shall be sold for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, about this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria,”
19the captain had answered the man of God, “If the Lord himself should make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?” And he had said, “You shall see it with your own eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”
20And so it happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gate and he died.
